John won for his enthusiastic engagement on all initiatives, providing the Aviation Working Group with timely and meaningful input on all initiatives.

1. Describe the Project for which you won your ‘Best & Fairest’ Award, and your feelings about being recognised for your efforts?

I have been involved in the Aviation Working Group. During 2022 I worked for two companies, both involved in Safer Together and enjoyed being part of the collaborative approach to safety within the industry. Safer Together projects, and broader discussions now form part of client meetings where we are all of similar understanding on topics or can direct a problem towards the next Safer Together forum for wider discussion.

2. In your sphere, what Safer Together product or program do you think contributes the most improving to safety outcomes in our industry, and why?

The monthly Aviation Group meetings have been the one activity that allows the helicopter companies and O&G companies to be together discussing common topics. The people we fly to O&G facilities, may work on different ones each tour. This can involve individuals flying on different helicopters and working for different O&G companies. Having a viewpoint across industry that is more singular provides greater consistency and standards for our passengers. I have not seen this opportunity in any other forum.

3. On a personal note, if you could live anywhere for a year, where would you live, and why?

Bali, a chilled lifestyle!

4. Do you have anything else you would like to add?

I am grateful for the opportunity to participate in the Safer Together Aviation Working Group. By participating, it opens learning opportunities for each of us in the industry, breaking down the silos between the helicopter companies and the customers we fly for.  Closely collaborating while maintaining commercial separation demonstrates a maturity in all the organisations involved.
