Steven won for his role as Team Lead for the Packaging, Handling and Movement of Materials Specification, which was delivered on time and on-budget, which has been so well received. Steve's a a great and welcome member of the Working Group and was nominated previously for his work on the LUEZ and Spotting Guideline.

We took the time to ask him a few questions about himself and his Award.

1. Describe the Project for which you won your ‘Best & Fairest’ Award, and your feelings about being recognised for your efforts?

This was recognition of the work done to lead a project team to develop a Specification for the Packaging, Handling and Movement of Materials onshore, as well as to/from offshore rigs and Platform Installations. I am proud of this work and recognition as it was challenging to gain alignment with all WA/NT operators and major contractors. The project team worked hard to ensure the specification closed gaps in the National Transport Guidance with regards to packaging of materials that go inside shipping containers or baskets but also that there was no conflicting information.

2. In your sphere, what Safer Together product or program do you think contributes the most improving to safety outcomes in our industry, and why?

Human/Machine Interface is one of the top risks impacting our Industry. The Safer Together Loading, Unloading, Exclusion Zone (LUEZ) Guideline was developed and provides guidance and standardisation of control measures for these types of activities. By Removing personnel from the danger zone, you’re mitigating risk and decreasing the likelihood of a LUEZ accident.

3. On a personal note, if you could live anywhere for a year, where would you live, and why?

I love living in Perth as the lifestyle is great for me and my family, but it can be a bit isolated. If I could live anywhere for a year, it would be somewhere in Europe to be closer to my family/friends in Scotland. There would be so many places to visit that only requires a short flight.

4. Do you have anything else you would like to add?

I would like to thank Safer Together for this recognition and for bringing the Oil/Gas Industry together to collaborate and help provide Standardization.
